This website seeks to show the beauty and joy found in Berkeley’s Aquatic Park and its three human-made lagoons, while explaining the complex challenges the park faces and preserving for all the documents needed to understand those challenges. It is curated and largely written by Susan Schwartz as part of Friends of Five Creeks’ general concern for local watersheds. Corrections, suggestions, and comments welcome at f5creeks@gmail.com.
To get involved, you can join the Google group Friends of Aquatic Park (communication, not advocacy) or any of several nonprofits, including Shark Stewards (cleanups, monitoring, and advocacy), Friends of Five Creeks (currently mainly this web site and documenting nature through iNaturalist.org; see project What Lives in Aquatic Park’s Lagoons), Waterside Workshops, and Berkeley Paddling and Rowing Club. The City of Berkeley Parks Department holds periodic volunteer events. Volunteer help with this web site and many forms of research also would be extremely welcome.
